Recently, the Commanding General chose the Squadron to conduct some classified operations to interdict terrorist operations in Iraq. Another highly successful series of operations, conducted simultaneous with our operations in Mosul. The operations were difficult and demanding; conducted over the course of three weeks. Our aviators were the proven professionals, conducting flawless operations in both Mosul and another location in the Iraqi Desert.
Stela Village…
The village continues to go well. The genesis of our interaction with the village came from the Commanding Generals intent for commander’s to interact with local civilians with the intent to care for those Iraqis suffering from the war, rebuild basic necessities, introduce democratic ideas, teach capitalism and establish relationships with our new brothers. Therefore, we incurred a local village, not far from our base of operations. The village is called Stela. The sheik is Abu Khalid and is the “head of the family” chosen by the rest of the village as the most “capable” leader. His position is through family, yet still voted by the members of the village.
