Operation 'Stella'

The Cav adopts a village in Iraq.

In between flying air combat support missions, searching for Saddam Hussein and earning "most decorated unit" status of the entire 101st Airborne Division, the 2nd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment has adopted a small village in Iraq near Mosul - code name "Stella".

The troopers of the 2/17 Cav have recently completed construction of an 8 room school house, including playground equipment.  They have the building, the teachers and the students. They need the school supplies and are asking for our help.  Click here to view a request from "Sabre 6", the Commanding Officer.

The photos below can be viewed full size by clicking on them. The first is the village Sheik, Sabre 6 and several villagers. The second is the village soccer team. As you can see, they desperately need uniforms and equipment. The third is a gathering of children and young men during a recent visit.
